Yendor Revisited

The great City of Yendor is the jewel in the crown of the Kingdom of Yendor. It is famous over the whole West for its trade, it's glittering streets and the great wealth of its merchants. It is also known to be an open city, welcoming to all, whatever your size or species. Its military forces, largely effete and ineffective rarely have to defend this peaceful city from enemies - it relies instead on the presence of the great 'Wizdome' of Yendor - the foremost centre of learning for the most powerful mages in the known world. No army would ever have the nerve to go up against Yendor.

Recent events have shown the mages to be - well - weakened. A few months ago a number of Corsair Seaclans gathered together with the sole aim of visiting the great and glittering Yendor and engaging in some 'rough trade'. This resulted in a number of epic sea battles in the straits outside the city, and resulted in the defeat of the sea clans.

However, all was not safe. In the far North, the great Dark Lord Abranoth has turned his attention on Yendor. Reports from the clans and from his spies told him that Yendor was wealthy, and whilst able to defeat a few scummy pirates, was still ripe for plunder. Summoning his minions, the Dark Lord massed a great host of dark soldiery, orcs, barbarian tribesmen, dwarves and monsters. Such an army has not gone un-noticed, and word reached the King of Yendor. Once again, the King hastily improved the walls and gates, repairing, rebuilding and strengthening. The Siege of Yendor was terrible to behold - the mighty army of the Dark Lord crashed against the city walls. Time and again the attacker breached the walls, only to be thrown back. Finally, after a desperate fight in the city streets themselves, the attack's spirit gave out and they retired from the field.

It took the city many months to start to recover, but the King was keen to pursue the retreating remnants of the Dark Lord, and let his Nobles and the cream of the fighting troops to harry the Dark Lord's retreat. He has left substantial forces to defend the battered city. Which has turned out to be just as well, because elements of the Orcs and Barbarian Tribes have taken it upon themselves to return to the city and increase their plunder. Of course, this is probably not much more than a raid - so the defender will have little trouble holding them off...won't they?
